The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) Theatre Arts Desk is inviting interested and qualified persons to apply for its 2017 Set Design Residency.
ONE experienced Barbadian Set Designer will be selected to undertake a three-month residency based at The NCF, West Terrace, St. James, AND at FieldTech Staging Solutions, Pelican Industrial Estate, Bridgetown. The resident will be mentored by Peter Lewis.
The Resident will engage in research-based arts practice, and will create a commissioned piece – a BACKDROP – rendered in any appropriate medium/media, and which depicts the heritage of Theatre in Bridgetown since the founding of the city. The backdrop will illustrate the spaces where theatre was made in Bridgetown, the individuals who were involved in this endeavour, and the variety of shows presented for public consumption.
Duration of Programme
The residency will take place from August to October, 2017, for which the Resident will receive an honorarium of BDS$2000.
Please note that your application must include a timeline mapping out your planned use of the three-month period. You will be expected to be onsite at FieldTech during the final month of the residency when you are constructing the BACKDROP.
The ideal candidate is a qualified and experienced theatre practitioner, with a visual arts background, who has designed and rendered a variety of theatrical sets.
