SAGICOR REACHES OUT IN SUPPORT OF THE NIFCA JUNIORS

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much…” A Sagicor corporate message certainly befitting of their show of support for the NIFCA Juniors. For the second year in succession, their sponsorship of this category of the performing arts will allow for the continued creation of a national stage on which the talent of our local aspiring young artistes is unearthed.

Sagicor was one of the sponsors who answered the NCF’s call in 2013 for Corporate Barbados to come to the rescue of the Performing Arts and have recommitted as a member of the NIFCA family for 2014.

NIFCA is one of the NCF’s main developmental programmes, and historically it has generated interest and participation from a number of school/community groups over its 41 years of existence. There are number of dance entrants for example with junior and mixed aged troupes that have been participating consecutively for as many as 21 years. Indeed it can also be said that performances from the many school choirs, drama speech participants and other categories have been one of the contributing factors to the audience attendance at NIFCA events over the years, resulting in the NCF’s decision to host a Final’s night specifically focusing on Juniors.

In a search through the NIFCA vaults, one could also follow the journey of the ‘NIFCA Babies’ who from a tender age on this national stage began their development of many a thriving career in the arts, in this case, specifically the performing arts.

Exactly two weeks shy of the Finals in the Junior Performing Arts category which is set for October 31st at the Frank Collymore Hall, today

representatives from the NCF and Sagicor paid a visit to The Geriatric Hospital to bring a tiny taste of the NIFCA Juniors to the seniors and infirm. A nice touch which saw the interaction of a combined team from both organisations with the patients and concluded with a kind presentation of a hamper from Sagicor chock-filled of items always needed at the Hospital.

Participants who qualify for the Finals in the Performing Arts, Juniors included, will be vying for NIFCA Gold, Silver and Bronze medals along with incentive awards in the non-professional category. They include the Madame Ifill Award for Dance; the Daphne Joseph-Hackett Award for Theatre – Drama; the Bruce St. John Award for Theatre – Speech; and the James Millington Award for Music.

The NCF urges the public to show their support for local talent. Tickets are available at a number of convenient box office locations and from a click online at www.ticketpal.com.
