Gabby_Narrative‘Groundings With The Mighty Gabby’ is a ten-hour in-depth interview series conducted with Barbados’ cultural icon Dr Anthony Chief Omowale ‘Mighty Gabby’ Carter, calypsonian, folk-singer, Pan-Africanist and story-teller in the tradition of the West African Griot.

Follow these clips as the Griot ‘reasons’ with fellow calypsonian, writer and culture worker Adonijah on several topics of national cultural interest in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the rebirth of the Crop Over Festival.

These interviews were conducted under the “Cultural Treasures of Barbados Series” and the Crop Over Oral History Project, two of the research projects managed and facilitated by the National Cultural Foundation through the National Oral History Programme (NOHP). They capture the Griot’s memories of growing up in Emmerton; participating in the modern Crop Over festival for the first time; on writing calypsos then and now; on meeting and working with Eddy Grant; his views on continental African philosophy; his experiences with some of the region’s greatest artists and much more.
